ReActiv8 Procedure

ReActiv8 is a small electronic device implanted in the lower back that activates and restores the multifidus muscle, a key stabilizing muscle in the lumbar spine. You can monitor the progress of the treatment by turning on the device using the wireless remote control for 30 minutes twice a day, usually in the morning and evening. During the treatment, the muscles of the lower back contract and relax.

By activating and strengthening the multifidus muscles, the restorative nature of ReActiv8 therapy aims to break the cycle of chronic low back pain, improving your function and reducing your pain over time.

When To Use It?

ReActiv8 Implantable Neurostimulation System is designed to help manage chronic low back pain caused by multifidus muscle weakness in patients who have failed treatment, including pain medications and physical therapy, and who are not candidates for surgery of the spine. Multifdus atrophy and weakness should be demonstrated by physical examination or lumbar MRI prior to device implantation.

Benefits And Risks

The main complication of ReActiv8 is the displacement of the probe from the target site. There may also be minor risks associated with the implant procedure, such as bleeding or infection.
In a clinical trial at the University of Kansas Health System, 60% of trial participants reported a 60% reduction in overall pain within one year. Half had little or no pain. As part of your consultation, your doctor will discuss all the risks and benefits of using the ReActiv8 Implantable Neurostimulation System so that you can make informed decisions about your care.

If you have chronic low back pain (CLBP) and nothing is giving you lasting or significant relief, you should consider the ReActiv8 Restorative Neurostimulation System. It is FDA approved, minimally invasive, and provides improved function and reduced disability due to chronic low back pain.
