What is it?

Neuropathy is a condition where a nerve or multiple nerves are irritated, inflamed, or simply malfunctioning. The condition can cause severe pain, numbness, and paresthesia (pins and needles feeling).

What causes it?

Neuropathy can have many causes, but diabetes remains the number one cause of neuropathy. Other causes include trauma, compression, impingement, or other metabolic disorder.

How can it be treated?

Neuropathy is treated first with physical therapy and medication management. If the pain persists, treatment may include nerve blocks, steroid injections, epidural steroid injections, or spinal cord stimulation.
