Opioid Dependence

Opioid dependence is a chronic widespread disease that is causing major health problems. Opioids are a class of drugs that act on our nervous system and are widely used for pain relief. Some commonly prescribed opioids include oxycodone, hydrocodone, codeine, and morphine. Though opioids are routinely prescribed by doctors to treat pain, their misuse overtime has lead to a dependency or addiction in many people; and therefore it is imperative that opioids be used in the dosage they are prescribed.

Opioid addiction can cause serious life-threatening health conditions, including overdose and death. When taken in excess, opioids can cause breathing to slow down or stop altogether, leading to unconsciousness and death.
