Chronic Pelvic Pain
Lawrence Pain doctor

Chronic pelvic pain typically represents pain in the area on the side of your waist , which may last six months or longer.

There can be multiple different causes for this type of pain. It might be a side effect from another disease or illness, or it can be a full blown condition on its own.

If the pain seems to come from another medical issue, eliminating that issue as a priority may help easing or eliminating the pain.

Although it is not possible, in many cases, to identify a single cause for this pain, treatments are available to reduce the pain and consequently improve quality of life.

Signs and symptoms

If asked where the pain is, you can try touching over the entire pelvic area, and try to describe your pain in one of the following ways:

  • Continuous and severe pain
  • Cramping pain or sharp stabbing pain
  • Dull aching sensation
  • Intermittent pain which comes and goes
  • Pressure felt within the pelvis or heaviness

In addition, the following symptoms may appear:

  • Pain going to the bathroom (urinating or during bowel movement)
  • Pain after you sit for a prolonged periods of time
  • Pain during intercourse

Furthermore, the pain may become more severe after standing for a long time, but change in posture or position may help relieve your pain. The pain can range from minor annoyance to severe enough that you have to miss work, develop insomnia and/or unable to exercise.
